Tobias Slotsager / 17 / OB
We kick off our list of cheap FM24 wonderkids with a Danish centre back talent that has a bright future to become a Danish international player.
Tobias Slotsager is a Danish Under-17 international who made his first team debut for Odense July 23rd 2023. Since then, the Danish centre back has made 10 appearances.
In FM24, Tobias Slotsager is a player who can develop into one of the best Scandinavian centre-backs in the right circumstances. Wanted by Manchester United at the start of the save, paints the picture of a player with lots of potential.
However, he might be better suited for a team outside the biggest clubs, such as Nantes, KRC Genk, Blackburn and so on.
If we look closer at his FM24 player profile he has decent attributes as a 17 year old at the start of the game. None of the key attributes for a defender is below 10 and a Determination of 14 and Natural Fitness of 13 gives you indications of a player who can progress well, and withstand high training intensity in the first couple of seasons.
Potential Ability: 120-150
Transfer Value: €1-3Mill
Andrés Salazar / 20 / Atlético Nacional
Attacking wingbacks like Daniel Alves is a rare breed in today’s football. With more and more teams playing three at the back with one inverted fullback, the traditional attacking wingbacks whooverlaps and make crosses into the box becomes fewer and fewer. However, if you’re looking for the next Andrew Robertson, Andrés Salazar might be the one!
The 20 year old fullback received his first team debut for the Colombian National team in June 2023 after 26 appearances for the Colombian Under-20 team. He’s received a few matches in the Liga DIMAYOR and if his development continues, could be the next Colombian talent to travel to Europe.
In FM24, Andrés Salazar is a decent prospect for anyone playing in the Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch or French league. Above average crossing, decent quickness and dribbling, decent ball control and capabilities to get past his marker to get to the byline to deliver crosses. His work rate and stamina ensures you have a player who can cover the entire flank – something you want if you are playing with a 3-5-2, 4-2-3-1 AMC or 4-3-3.
The well-rounded player profile makes him into a great target for any clubs below the top 20 clubs. Consider his attribute to rise by 1 to 3 points over the next five to ten years, and you might turn a €15-30Million profit on him, unless you look at him as a first-choice option as you can’t afford anything better.
Potential Ability: 120-150
Transfer Value: €1.5-3Mill
Franco González / 19 / Peñarol
Franco González has within a year gone from pretty unknown to playing regularly in the Uruguayan Primera Division after moving from Danubio to Peñarol. The 165cm tall attacking midfielder has received 27 appearances for the Uruguayan U20 team, scoring 3 goals in total. He was part of the Uruguay U20 squad who won the FIFA Under-20 World Cup 2023.
In FM24, Peñarol’s #9 looks like a highly skilled shadow striker. Determination 18, composure 16, Acceleration 15, and last but not least,16 in Finishing is truly remarkable!
Include his abilities to control the ball and creativity and he looks like the cheap alternative to Lionel Messi.
With technique of 14, first touch at 15 and dribbling at 14, he can create chances as well as score goals.
In one of my simulations, Newcastle bought the player in second season for €4Million but didn’t quite deliver the best performances and got sold for €10.25Million to Club America, where he in 2029 is valued between €9-30Million.
Can you get the best out of Franco González in Football Manager 2024?
Potential Ability: 120-150
Transfer Value: €220K-2Mill
Matija Popovic / 17 / A.C Monza
Partizan’s youth academy has managed to produce a long list of incredible Serbian internationals. From Mateja Kezman to Dusan Vlahovic or Aleksandar Mitrovic their records of producing striker wonderkids is outstanding. The next rising star is Matija Popovic.
The promising striker was sold to A.C Monza in January 2024 after impressing in the Kadetska liga for Partizan’s Under-19 team – resulting in Popovic scoring an incredible 21 goals in 25 appearances.
Born in Germany, the 17 year old striker is already touted as the next Aleksandar Mitrovic – probably due to his goalscoring ability and capabilities as a deep-lying forward. In real life, he’s currently on an outgoing contract which makes him available on free transfer in January 2024, something that has alerted the attention of Barcelona and Bor. Dortmund.
In FM24, he will be available for under €100K and is a potential candidate to be re-trained as a Shadow Striker. His off the ball movement, quickness and finishing, is already at 12 – decent figures for a 17-year old!
On top of that he’s fairly consisted player, and got decent passing, first touch, flair, vision and technique to be considered for any teams playing a possession game.
Potential Ability: 140-170
Transfer Value: €6K-60K
Aleksander Hammer Kjelsen / 17 / Vålerenga
If you’re looking for a potential superstar then we need to mention Aleksander Hammer Kjelsen. The young Norwegian centre back who plies his trade at Vålerenga is a must-buy hidden gem!
The Norwegian Under-18 international has already debuted in Eliteserien and has received 8 caps for a struggling VIF, something that might tell us that his current attributes are probably on the low-end, especially his anticipation and concentration.
At the start of the save he stands out for his acceleration and pace, tackling and marking. Over the next 10 years he will develop into one of the best Scandinavian centre-backs in Football Manager 2024 (EarlyAccess).
Throughout my simulations, he is valued between €10-50Mill being signed by KRC Genk and Freiburg, which paints the picture of his future abilities. However, in one of these simulations he’s wanted by Man Utd meaning it’s potential to make a big profit by signing and developing this Norwegian wonderkid on FM24.
Potential Ability: 130-160
Transfer Value: €200K-2Mill
Jonah Kusi-Asare / 16 / AIK (24.0 DB)
Jonah Kusi-Asare was sold to Bayern Münich in the January transfer window 2024 and will be valued a bit higher in the 24.2 db.
The last Scandinavian wonderkid in this instance, is cheap hidden gem with huge potential. We have already mentioned him on our latest must-buy Football Manager 2024 Wonderkids video, but for those of you who haven’t seen it, we need to mention him here as well!
We’re of course talking about Jonah Kusi-Asare.
The Swedish Under-17 international made his debut in Allsvenskan at the end of August 2023, making him the youngest ever AIK player.
At the start of your FM24 save, Jonah Kusi-Asare’s player profile might not look that enticing. Above average Determination, good pace, great movements and the strength, bravery and heading to become a future target man. Standing at 196cm tall at the age of 16, the Swedish talent could be a decent signing for top clubs in Belgium, Netherlands and Denmark – those nations and leagues outside the top 5.
He could be a suited signing for Burnley or any teams who likes to play a more counter-attacking style of play as he’s gifted at holding up the ball and take advantage of his aerial abilities and physical dominance to retain possession and bring his teammates into play.
If you’re able to develop Jonah Kusi-Asare in FM24, you’ll probably looking at a player which you can sell for 10x the amount you bought him for.
NB! Don’t forget that player development will vary in FM24 fom save to save with the incorporation of ‘late bloomers’ and players reaching their maximum potential far later than we’ve been used to.
Potential Ability: 140-170
Transfer Value: €180K-1.8Mill
David Martínez / 17 / Monagas (VEN)
When scouting for cheap wonderkids in Football Manager 2024, there’s no way to overlook South America. In Ecuador, Venezuela and Colombia, there are so many great cheap hidden gems. One of these players is an incredible Venezuelan wonderkid that you can sign for under €1Million on Football Manager 2024! If you don’t like the sound of that, then …?!
David Martínez is a 17 year old right winger who has already received his first team debut for the Venezuelan National team. The left-footed inverted winger is capable of playing in any position in the attacking mid strata.
Standing out for his incredible creativity and flair, vision and ball control, David Martínez has all the traits required to create chances for himself or others from the right flank. His one-on-one skills (dribbling, agility and technique) is already hgih at the age of 17. When we know you can add 3 to 4 attributes points over the next 10 years, then we are looking at one of the best wingers in Football Manager 2024 10 years into the future.
In one of my simulations, Juventus has signed him up and he’s worth anywhere between €50-150Mill. In this save he was initially signed by LOSC Lille for only €475K!
Potential Ability: 140-170
Transfer Value: €400K-1.2Mill
Goncalo Moreira / 17 / Benfica
The Benfica Academy is definitely a must-place to scout for cheap wonderkids. We have previously mentioned João Veloso and João Rêgo but as their reputation has grown and the market value has sky rocket,I’d like to recommend another Portuguese gem; Gonçalo Moreira.
At the beginning of 2023-24 season, the 171cm tall winger stands out for his determination (16), agility (13) and acceleration (13). However, the rest of his player profile is not jaw-breaking. But through simulations, the Portuguese Under-17 international develops into a pacy winger with technique, flair and agility above 15.
His abilities in one-on-one situations, versatility to play both on the left and right wing, as well as in the false nine role makes Gonçalo Moreira into an highly interesting prospect.
In one of my simulations he was signed by Real Madrid, whilst in another he was eventually bought by Newcastle. His development in that last simulation has been hampered with tight groin, knee and hamstring issues.
Regardlessly, it paints the picture of a playerwith significant potential if you’re able to keep him injury free and give him five seasons to truly break into the first team. For the value we are talking about, it’s truly no risk attached to signing him. The potential profit is far higher than the risk as I see it, as he might have a market value of €50-100Million.
Potential Ability: 140-170
Transfer Value: €220K-2.2Mill
Dário Essugo / 18 / Chaves (Sporting CP)
Looking for the next Sergio Busquets but can’t afford Marc Bernal (€14-18Mill), then Dário Essugo might be the one to target! The current Portuguese Under-21 international has been a regular in the different youth national teams of Portugal from the age of 14. Now he’s part of Sporting Lisbon’s first team but is yet to become a first team regular.
The defensive midfielder got his Liga NOS debut in 2020/21 but had to wait until 2023-24 before getting more than one apperance. Instead, he’s been given chances in the Allianz Cup and have ranked up 14 appearances so far.
In FM24, Dário Essugo is a rough deep-lying midfielder diamond in the making. Capable of retaining possession despite being put under pressure, having the vision to create chances from deep by making those line-breaking passes, as well as having the strength and work rate to use his physic to regain possession and protect the defence by anticipating attacking runs.
On top of that he has high natural fitness to withstand the huge match load professional players experiences these days, as well as the determination to develop under an intensive training regime.
His versatility makes him able to be used in a number of different systems, from a traditional 4-3-3 to a more modern meta 3-2-4-1 tactic.
Potential Ability: 130-160
Transfer Value: €350K-3.4Mill
Anderson Duarte / 19 / Defensor Sporting
If you’re hunting for promotion to the top leagues, or manage a team outside the biggest ones, you will enjoy the skills of Anderson Duarte. This season he has received 18 appearances over four different tournaments for Defensor Sporting, and is one of many up-and-coming Uruguayan talents to watch.
The Uruguayan Inside Forward is a highly creative player who shines when he can use his low centre of gravity, flair and dribbling technique to get past his marker regardless of how much space he has. Great first touch, technique, agility and quickness enables him to retain possession despite under pressure.
However, whilst his on-the-ball skills and ability to strike the ball when entering the final third is decent, he lacks the game intelligence to become the next superstar. Improving his anticipation, decision-making and team work should be one of the first objectives to make him a well-rounded player.
Regardlessly, Anderson Duarte is a real cheap hidden gem could turn in great performances for sides in Italy, Spain, Portugal and France. In my simulations he’s been decent both at Blackburn, Atalanta and Nottingham Forest, and can be sold for around €20-50Mill once reaching the ‘Emerging’ phase.
Potential: 143
Transfer Value: €1.1-2.5Mill
Ronnie Edwards / 20 / Peterborough
Finally, for all those managing in England and need to improve their squad with a home-grown player. Ronnie Edwards is probably one of the best English wonderkids bargains on Football Manager 2024. At a maximum transfer fee of €3Million, you have a potential Premier League first team option.
The 185cm tall ball-playing defender has really risen in fame the past 1.5 year. So far in the 2023-2024 season, the English Under-20 international has played all 14 matches for Peterborough in League One and could be a wonderful signing for any Championship sides.
In FM24, Ronnie Edwards got the abilities to be used in the Libero role – something that may be useful for any of you who wish to emulate Pep Guardiola’s 3-2-4-1 John Stones tactic in FM24.
Standing out for his tackling, marking, positioning, and anticipation, he has everything you want from a traditional defender. His great abilities in passing, his composure on the ball and first touch makes him a valuable player for anyone wanting to play out from the back using a short passing system.
Wanted by Man Utd, Chelsea, Newcastle and all the other Premier League sides at the start of 23/24 season, I was quick to sign the player in my save.
Overall, he’s a great signing for any teams, whether you need a backup player for your top club or a first-team option for your mid-table club.
Potential Ability: 130-160
Transfer Value: €475K-4.5Mill
Jakob Napoleon Romsaas / 19 / Tromsø
After years of struggling in the bottom half of the Eliteserien, Tromsø has managed to establish a transfer policy where they identify talents that has potential but hasn’t yet made their breakthrough yet. Jakob Napoleon Romsaas was signed from Norwegian youth talent factory Skeid before 2023 season. After getting his debut in May 2023, he has build confidence match after match – something that has resulted in 7 goals in 20 appearances. His overhead kick goal against Rosenborg showed his goalscoring instinct and his abilities to do the unexpected.
In FM24, Jakob Napoleon Romsaas is a highly creative versatile forward. You can use him as an attacking midfielder behind an out-and-out striker, one on of the flanks as an inside forward who can cut inside and come to goalscoring opportunities by making long shots from the edge of the penalty box, or as a False 9. So many options to utilize his playmaking strengths.
Despite one of the more expensive options on this list, Jakob Napoleon Romsaas can be worth every penny. The more I look at his profile, the more I like it. Dribbling, agility, vision and technique besides 16 in flair. Even got Tries killer balls often and tries tricks which makes him a highly interesting Trequartista for Championship, League One or one of the Benelux leagues. Perhaps you can even turn him into a Premier League player with the right development plan?!
Potential Ability: 130-160
Transfer Value: €2-4.5Mill
