Following up from Zinedine Zidane’s 2016/17 Real Madrid tactics, it’s time to look closer at the Pep Guardiola’s possession tactic at Barcelona.
Pep Guardiola’s first season as Barcelona manager didn’t just deliver a treble — it reshaped modern football. Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona 2008/09 side was the start of a wonderful era for the Cules. Pep’s tactics became the reference point for positional play, high pressing, and control through structure rather than chaos. Recreating that team in Football Manager 2026 is not about copying a formation on paper, but about replicating the ideas behind it.
This FM26 tactic is my attempt to do exactly that.

Tactical Philosophy: Control Over Chaos
At its core, this recreation is built around control. Guardiola’s Barcelona didn’t dominate games by playing fast for the sake of it — they dominated by occupying space intelligently, creating constant passing angles, and suffocating opponents immediately after losing possession.
