3 ‘Hidden’ Football Manager 2022 Spanish Wonderkids
Dani Pérez / 16 / Real Betis
For a Barcelona fan, there’s something special feelings coming up in me when finding small slender midfielders with technical brilliance. It’s easy to draw similarities to Xavi, Andres Iniesta or also David Silva. Within my life, Spain has managed to bring up some of the most technically gifted playmakers the world have ever seen. One of the latest talents is Dani Pérez.
The 172cm tall central midfielder is one of these magnificent players that excels with the ball at his feet. With great technique, vision and sublime first-touch he’s a press-resistant player that can both retain possession in advance areas of the pitch as well as creating chances for the forwards.
When the team is in possession of the ball, he’s able to make advance runs into the penalty box, or behind the opposition defense that will create the necessary overloads and disrupt their organization.
You can retain the player into an attacking midfielder, but might lack the acceleration and stamina to successfully be used in the Shadow Striker role. Instead, let him connect play between the lines by using his great Passing and Technique. On the ball, he’s also capable of getting past his marker and can finish off the attacks by making late runs inside the box. His Composure and Finishing will make him a rather dangerous player if you create a tactic that let him be more direct – rather than a passing maestro.
Transfer Value: €750K
Aimar Vicandi / 16 / At. Bilbao U19
Selecting the Spanish wonderkid that shall represent Athletic Bilbao is no easy task. With a great number of Under-18 talents with a potential ability to reach European top standard I could have filled this post with only Athletic players.
Instead, I decided to recommend Aimar Vicandi. The young right winger seems like a decent signing. He’s natural as both left Inside Forward and could also be used as a Striker. Standing out for his immense unpredictability and work rate he’s a very committed player that will his very best on and off the pitch.
Aimar Vicandi also possess the pace and finishing that would be valuable in your forwards. By being able to get past his marker either by movements or dribble past, he will thrive into space from where he can take shots or make assists.
The player profile of Aimar Vicandi is somehow similar to another new Spanish wonderkid worth mentioning, La Masia product Dani Rodriguez (15) who I also recommend you to take a look at! For around the same price as Aimar Vicandi, it all depends whether you need a right winger or an left. Buying both would ensure your flanks is covered with the necessary creativity to unlock the opposition defence.
Transfer Value: €1-2Mill
Trilli / 18 / Deportivo Fabril
Todays football requires more of the players than ever before, especially for the modern wingbacks who is as likely to be an attacking threat as a defender that provides defensive solidity. These days, Trent-Alexander Arnold might be the best wingback the world have ever seen! One potential player that could live up to TAA’s abilities is the Spanish full-back Trilli.
Álvaro Pérez Campo aka Trilli received his debut for the Spanish Under-21 team in September 2021 and have made his way into Deportiva La Coruña’s first team, getting 10 appearances in the Spanish third division.
In FM22, Trilli got the potential to become one of the best right wingbacks in the future. He got the stamina to cover the entire flank and despite lacking some abilities in one-on-one situations with the ball at his feet, his Vision and technical abilities can help him to create chances from wider areas despite lacking a bit in Crossing.
He stands out for his smartness in positioning and decision-making, making himself a very tactical adept player. He reads the play very well and understands where he needs to be in all phases of play to aid his teammates, whether that being help to retain possession or dispossess the ball. In some ways, his defensive qualities resembles Trent Alexander Arnold’s teammate Andrew Robertson; good Tackling, Marking, Anticipation and Positioning for his age.
For the bargain price of €1.5Million, it would be a no-brainer to sign this young Spanish wonderkid that actually becomes a Liverpool player in 2033! [See Screenshot in this link]
Transfer Value: €150K-1.5Mill
Additional FM22 Hidden Wonderkids
Deivi Barrios / 17 / Real Cartagena
Colombia will always be a place to find cheap wonderkids. One of the latest Colombian wonderkids breaking through in the country is Deivi Barrios. The 17 year old central defender was according to Transfermarkt captain for the Colombian Under-19s National team in three friendly matches held in November 2021.
He finally made his debut for Real Cartagena January 23, 2022 against Tigres FC. Since then he has received seven appearances in Torneo Dimayor I and Copa Dimayor.
In FM22, Deivi Barrios looks like a star in the making! Despite only 17, he got great Strength, good Positioning, Concentration, Tackling and Marking. His ability to defend on the ground – either intercepting passes by good anticipation and understanding of where he needs to be according to where the ball is, is extended with great aerial skills. With a height of 182cm, Heading of 15 and Jumping Reach 12 he’s able to be an important asset both in defensive and attacking corners or at free-kicks.
With the reasonable price tag of below €2Million he provides more value for the money than Spanish, French or Italian defenders around the same age.
Transfer Value: €750K-1.6Mill
Adis Jasic / 18 / Wolfsberger
A nation skilled at producing wonderkids in FM is Austria. With RB Salzburg and their affiliate club FC Liefering standing on the forefront of producing the best talents in Austria it’s easy to overlook some of the other great gems in the country. While you immediately think of Benjamin Sesko, Karim Adeyemi or Yusuf Demir when it comes to Austria, I want to bring awareness to another Austrian wonderkid.
Adis Jasic has been one of the revelations in the Austrian Bundesliga this season. With 2 assists and 4 goals scored in overall 20 appearances (cups and league matches combined), the 18 year old right back(!) could become the natural replacement of Stefan Lainer when he eventually retires from international football.
Adis Jasic’s player profile could resemble a young David Alaba. With great quickness, Technique and Work Rate he’s able to cover the entire right flank. The current Austrian Under-19 National player is fairly versatile – able to play both as defensive winger in a 4-4-2, or a central mid Mezzala.
Even though Adis Jasic in FM22 has lots to work on in his technical abilities on and off the ball (Passing, Crossing and Marking), his physical abilities will make him into a great signing. His Work rate, Teamwork and Stamina are all valuable skills in an Attacking fullback. Then his Positioning, Concentration and Anticipation will make him less likely to make costly mistakes.
Who knows, perhaps Adis Jasic’s progress will continue over the next month and he’ll become a wonderkid in the same mould of Trent Alexander Arnold or David Alaba?!
Transfer Value: €3.5-7.5Mill

With the help of the brilliant work made by Daveincid who run a 12 year holiday simulation using the latest winter transfer update, my research for this post was made easier. So a huge thanks to him for the help!
Daveincid is most known for his amazing work on the increase realism megapack which I recommend you to download. This database makes several adjustments in the game to improve the realism towards injuries, transfers, finances and much more major and minor fixes.
His simulation into the future has both helped me to identify more hidden wonderkids in FM22 plus showcasing their development and progress. Their development might be enhanced if you sign the player and takes care of their development from early age!
