Football Manager 2026: A New Era – FM26 Returns Bigger, Better & More Immersive!
Football Manager 26 is set to be the first edition in a new era of Sports Interactive’s Football Manager series. Huge changes is expected not only in the technical performance of the game but also the look and feel.
FM26 is the series’ biggest technical and visual advancement for a generation. The introduction of Women’s Football, a completely revamped game UI and a more visually impressive Matchday experience makes Football Manager 2026 enter a brand new era!
Then, do not forget the tactical enhancements and freedom the improvements made to tactics creation in Football Manager 2026 in terms of new and improved player roles and how the players will behave within the brand new match engine.
Regardless of whether you’ll be playing Football Manager for the first time, or consider yourself as one of the FM Veterans, as you’ve played the game since it was called Championship Manager, FM26 will be like a brand new game!
The massive changes coming to FM26 is one of the biggest since 2005, when the game left the former game publisher, Eidos Interactive, and was rebranded into Football Manager, or when the 3D match engine was introduced to Football Manager 2009.
For the last few years, the game has gone from strength to strength.
FM24 most recently surpassed 17 million players – making it the most-played edition in series history! That’s a huge increase from the 6 million players for FM23 and this milestone definitely sets the tone for FM26 release by having to please the expectations of millions of fans.
To quote Studio Director Miles Jacobson in an interview with Eurogamer.net; “FM25 is not a continuation of FM24. FM25 is the ‘next generation of Football Manager’, and is the first chapter in the new book of Football Manager, and will get expanded on. If people are expecting FM24 plus, plus, plus, they are not going to be getting that with FM25.“
When FM25 was cancelled earlier this year, all the new features, improvements and massive changes was pushed into Football Manager 26 – meaning we already have a great picture about the most striking changes coming to FM26, since they have been confirmed for FM25.
These extra few months has enabled Sports Interactive to perfect the game. Perhaps, we’ll even see features that was supposed to be removed or moved to the next installation, return for FM26 – I’m of course thinking about international management, shouts and Versus Mode.
Here’s a quick recap of new Football Manager 2026 features:
Powered by Unity Engine
The brand new Unity engine will debut in Football Manager 26 – bringing a huge change to not only the user interface, user graphics and presentation of data but also the overall performance of the match engine.
Slicker, faster and better 3D animations that makes the Football Manager-series ready for the next decade. Not to forget better lightning and other graphical enhancements that improves the overall match day experience on Football Manager 26.
Redefined User Experience
The new improvements to the User Interface provides a similar UI experience regardless of whether you are playing the game on your computer, console or mobile device. The refined UI brings not only faster navigation through cleaner menus but also a smarter and more innovative experience with data more easily accessible through the use of cards and tiles.
Integration of Women’s Football

The integration of Women’s football in FM26 is backed by a comprehensive database of female players and a host of licensed competitions in Football Manager 26 – all set to be revealed in the coming weeks!
One of the leaks we have, from SI’s own website is a screenshot revealing the Barclays Women’s Super League logo featured in a match screen from a women’s game.
