FM23 All or Nothing 4-1-4-1 by FM DNA – The Best All-Out-Attack Tactic on FM23?
With the success of the Golden Circus 3-3-3-1 tactic, we are back with a brand new Football Manager 2023 tactics to try out! This time, our content creator FM DNA looks at his FM23 All or Nothing 4-1-4-1 tactic that can simply be described as one of these Goals Galore tactics on Football Manager 2023.
Today we will take a closer look at the All or Nothing 4-1-4-1 tactic that is as entertaining to watch as it’s powerful in its attack. Here it’s literally about taking any chances necessary to win more games and eventually win titles and promotions.
With two shadow strikers and two attacking inside forwards behind the lone out-and-out striker and only one holding midfielder, it’s literally about taking any necessary risk to overload the opposition in the final third by numerical superiority in and around their defensive line. With 5 men up front, it may seem like an overkill, but with the current match engine, it becomes goals galore!
If you’re worried about how the All or Nothing performs defensively, all I can say is that it is not bad at all! By topping the charts for the most clean sheets in its league, it gives you a solid system to use in the non-leagues to hunt for promotions or when you are chasing for titles and champions.
The FM23 All or Nothing tactic has been tested with Arsenal, AC Milan and Norwich City to show off the tactic and its results.

Team Instructions
In Possession
Build-Up Phase
In the build-up phase the team will play their way out of defence using a mix of short-passing style and progressive passes that initially seeks out one of the forwards. At this stage, the two shadow strikers will move between the lines, making the system act like a 2-3-2-3 shape – similar to the Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona Tiki-Taka tactic by Passion4FM.
With five men up front, it forces the opposition to take actions by defending deeper – meaning you’ll create numerical superiority when building out from the back.
In Transition
In transition from defence to attack, it’s all about using the moments of chaos to go forward and attack with quickness and pace. By launching quick counter-attacks, you need players with great physic, both in terms of acceleration, stamina and work rate.
The tactic is build around these quick transitions using quick mid-short passes delivered into space for the forwards to run onto. When entering the final third, you’ll have a 2-3-5 shape with the two wingbacks providing the width while the five forwards have the full freedom to find necessary space.
At times, the attacking positioning of the forwards will be clustered but this helps to overload the half spaces and create those numerical superiority Pep Guardiola favours within his systems. In fact, you’ll be able to overload on each side, all depending on where the ball is, and how the opposition prefers to defend against it.
Out of Possession
The All or Nothing tactic will defend in a 4-1-4-1 shape with the defensive midfielder holding position in front of the back four. The defensive instructions will be rather proactive, looking at winning possession high up the field and break on the counter in a similar fashion as Klopp’s Gegenpressing style.
