The amount of default formations lets you create a personal style from thousands of combinations.
From what we can see the different duties will now be reflected in the tactics board with their preferred player positioning, which gives you an better idea of the average positioning and see the tactical shape more visually.
As a result you will have more flexibility and tactical systems to benefit from.
The improvements to tactics will also benefit the AI manager as they now will utilize their tactics more effective as they incorporate player roles more intelligently. AI managers will also have preferred roles integrated to their tactics setup.
Football Manager 2015 New Player Roles
To give you more flexibility in tactical setup there are added 4 new player roles to pick from which makes you able to instruct the team exactly how you want it.
Central / Defensive Midfielders can be given the roaming playmaker role designed for a modern versatile midfielder in the likes of Yaya Toure. The FM15 roaming playmaker role will split the duty of the deep lying playmaker role and advanced playmaker. The roaming playmaker is only available in support duty.
Wingers can be given the player role of the Raumdeuter. The FM15 player role Raumdeuter will resemble a wide poacher duty suited for operating in the periphery of build-up. The Raumdeuter means space investigator and can be resembled to how Thomas Müller operates – always looking and finding space with his incredible intelligence by drifting around both creating pockets of space for himself and others. The Raumdeuter is only available in attacking duty and may neglect defensive duties in order to find space – much like the trequartista.
The inverted wingback is inspired from the modern South American wingback, utilized with greatness by Marcelo Bielsa with the Chilean national team. The inverted wing back will cut inside and act more like an central midfielder than a wing back, wide midfielder or winger creating space on the widths.
If you like to utilize the creativity on the wings the Football Manager 2015 player role Wide Playmaker might be the role to choose. The Wide Playmaker will position himself in the pocket between the opponents wingers and fullbacks and drift inside from wide position when in possession to create chances and killer passes unmarked – something similar to how Andres Iniesta played as under Gerardo Martino last season.
New Player Preferred Moves (PPM) Added:
- Penalty box PPM instructs the player to stay inside the penalty box whenever possible, rather than dropping deep or cutting inside. The penalty box player preferred moves is suitable for poachers or advanced forwards who operates in front of a pivotal forward or supporting attacking midfielder.
- Refrain from shooting from distance which restricts the number of long shots he is likely to take
- goalkeepers can also be thought to start counter attacks by quickly deliver the ball long with a long throw as soon as the opportunity presents itself.
Improvements to Football Manager 2015 Training
With the major improvements to the Football Manager 2015 player roles and how you create tactics in FM15, training has been improved in terms of giving you the ability to set a mentality focus for individual training player role.
In FM15 you will be able to specify if the player shall focus on defend, support or attack duty according to the player attributes for that mentality and role, or set a more general approach to the player role training.
Other improvements/changes to the training section in FM15 is;
- removal of the scheduling slider (speculations)
- more realistic training for semi-pros and amateurs – more flexible scheduling which takes into account which days teams have matches
Another improvement, which we found worthy, is the changes done to the general coaches coaching styles. They will now have a preferred focus on how they like to work with the players, either its a technical, tactical or mental focus – looking to improve the player attributes related to the category.
Technical styled coaches will mainly focus on the technical aspect of the game; dribbling, movement
Tactical styled coaches will focus mainly on the tactical aspect – looking to develop tactical aware players
Mental styled coaches will focus on the mental aspect of the game improving mental attributes.
