Winger

Velez Sarsfield is no strangers to developing international star players. Diego Simeone, Nicolás Otamendi and Pablo Cavallero are all brought up at Velez. One of the new promising talents to come through is Nicolás Delgadillo, an 18 year old traditional winger who uses his quickness and dribbling to get to the byline and use his crossing abilities to create chances. Delgadillo profit from great technique and uses his unpredictability to get by his marker. As a winger I would look to improve his balance but also put an extra focus on his off the ball movement. This young winger with great potential is also fairly skilled at taking corners and free kicks.
While his FM17 attributes are in overall on the middle range of the scale, I would believe with proper development and match experience Nicolás Delgadillo could become a valuable player in competitions similar to Ligue 1. He could be described as a cheaper version of Arjen Robben, but needs to improve his attacking qualities and his abilities with the ball to become anywhere near Robben’s level.

Joaquin Correa – Sevilla, Argentina
Preferred Foot: Right
Nationality: Argentina
Secondary Nation:
Wage: €28K per week
Min. Fee Release Clause: 23.5Mill
Contract Expires:
Inside Forward

The Argentinian born attacking midfielder with dual nationality came to Sevilla before the 2016-2017 season. Despite he has not received too many chances and been a major factor for the success of Jorge Sampaoli’s Sevilla he was one of the first players to enter. His Football Manager 2017 player profile in regard to his height differs somehow to the profile of Transfermarkt, where he’s 12 centimeters taller than FM17 (176 cm). Given the number 11 shirt, he’s surely a player to excel once he gets accustomed to Spanish way of playing and he has surely the potential to take Spania with storm.
Joaquin Correa could be described as an inside forward or a wide advanced playmaker due to his ability to dictate the tempo of the match and use his excellent technique and vision to the benefit of the team.
He can be compared to Thorgan Hazard or Manuel Lanzini as they all possesses the ability to dribble past opponents, getting control of the ball by possessing a silky touch and use their unpredictability to get past the ball past their marker utilizing acceleration and pace. He tends to run with the ball through the center of the pitch but lacks the finishing skills to finish off the attacks himself. Instead he should be seen as a chance creator who can open up the defensive block by through balls and movements. A minor weakness is his off the ball movement and teamwork abilities.
The Argentinian born attacking midfielder can play as a winger, central attacking midfielder or be successfully retrained as a central midfielder. Here it’s most natural to select him for an advanced playmaker role as he possesses great anticipation, vision and passing. Joaquin Correa has a minimum fee release clause of €23.5Mill and would demand a rather big wage compared to the other talents of this page with similar recommendation.
Passion4FM FM17 Recommendation:
Alexis Messidoro – Boca Juniors Res, Argentina
Preferred Foot: Right
Nationality: Argentina
Secondary Nation:
Wage: €1.8K per week
Contract Expires: 30.06.2019
Shadow Striker

Dória – Olympique Marseille, Brazil
Preferred Foot: Left Only
Nationality: Brazil
Secondary Nation:
Wage: €18.75K per week
Contract Expires: 30.06.2019
Defensive Centre Back

Dória, the former Football Manager wonderkid, is a strong central defender who is really strong in the air, either at defensive set-pieces or attacking set-pieces, because he’s 189 centimeter tall and have a great jumping reach. Despite a body weight of 85kg he’s rather quick with 14 in acceleration and 13 in pace. Noted for his tackling and marking abilities, Dória may be a great player for any continental clubs despite lacking the most impressive stats in positioning, composure and concentration. You can trust the player to make many tackles per game and make important key tackles. With fairly decent first touch, passing and vision, he’s not the best player to be used for any sides wanting to play possession football. You should consider to improve his mental stats in order to make him an even better player. He is also a player who relishes big matches.
Rodrigo Amaral – Club Nacional, Uruguay
Preferred Foot: Left
Nationality: Uruguay
Secondary Nation:
Wage: €2.1K
Contract Expires: 30.06.2018
Trequartista / Attacking Midfielder

The Football Manager 2017 player profile of Rodrigo Amaral draws many similarities to one of the best Uruguayan strikers in recent history. Similar to Diego Forlan, Rodrigo Amaral is a highly technical player capable of striking the ball into the back of the net. Despite only 19 years old, the attacking midfielder is a great finisher with lots of flair. I would believe he would be at his best in a 4-2-3-1 formation playing either as a secondary striker or a breaking player from central midfield or the AM-strata. He is inclined to cut inside from both wings. due to his weak right foot, it’s best to let him play on the right side of the pitch, perhaps as a AMRC. With great balance, flair and dribbling he would be able to open up the opposite sides defensive block as he’s capable of both running with the ball, finish inside the penalty box or create half chances using is decent passing abilities.
As I see it, there are no risks of purchasing this player as the transfer may be very cheap since he will demand low wages. Highly recommended player for any sides playing a Jürgen Klopp type of football. His biggest weakness may be his acceleration and pace, his work rate and determination. I would recommend to spend some extra time to improve his physic in order to be able to become a valuable asset for high intensity matches existing in modern football.
Jorge – Flamingo, Brazil
Preferred Foot: Left

Danilo – SL Benfica (Braga), Brazil

Box to Box Midfielder / Ball Winning Midfielder

Felipe Vizeu – Flamingo, Brazil
Preferred Foot: Left
Nationality: Brazil
Secondary Nation:
Wage: €1.7K
Contract Expires: 31.12.2020
Min. Fee Release Clause: €8Mill
Complete Forward

Ariel Fantoni – San Lorenzo, Argentina
Preferred Foot: Left Only
Nationality: Argentina
Secondary Nation:
Wage: €30 per week
Contract Expires: 30.06.2020
Trequartista

Cristian Barrios – San Lorenzo, Argentina
Preferred Foot: Right
Nationality: Argentina
Secondary Nation:
Wage: €30 per week
Contract Expires: 30.06.2019
Advanced Playmaker

Perhaps one of the smallest players in the Football Manager 2017 database we find Cristian Barrios at San Lorenzo. But don’t let his appearance as his skills could be compared to FC Barcelonas wonder boy Carles Aleña – a highly technical attacking midfielder with the great potential. Cristian Barrios is a very creative player who has the ability to open up the defensive block with sublime killer balls or movements with the ball at his feet. Cristian Barrios is a very good player at retaining possession and create chances and can be described as an intelligent player with good off the ball movements. Despite he’s fairly good at being able to make himself available for a pass, I would spend an extra effort to improve his off the ball even further as this type of player is most likely to be man marked for the entire 90 minutes.
What might hinder him to play at the highest level is his low level of physic – most importantly his work rate and stamina. His balance with the ball at his feet, coupled with his body size, is a weakness which makes him an easy target and makes the team prone to loose possession as a strong player can easily get him out of balance and recover possession. While there are similarities to Andres Iniesta, Xavi and Lionel Messi at certain areas of his play he will most likely not reach the same level of football as he lacks determination and ambitions. Cristian Barrios could be a great player in a 4-4-2 diamond formation feeding the strikers with through balls and play the others in to a goal scoring position. By playing between the lines behind two forwards he will be removed from defensive duties such as closing down, man marking or regaining possession in the defensive transition phase as this does not suit him at all. His lack of aggression, determination, positioning and tackling makes him useless for the defensive phase.
Nicolás González – Argentinos Juniors, Argentina
Preferred Foot: Left Only
Nationality: Argentina
Secondary Nation:
Wage: €600 per week
Contract Expires: 30.06.2019
Inside Forward

John – Santos Res, Brazil
Preferred Foot: Right
Nationality: Brazil
Secondary Nation:
Wage: €625 per week
Contract Expires: 12.01.2021
Min. Fee Release Clause (Domestic): €3Mill
Goalkeeper Defend

A promising goalkeeper from Brazil is John Victor Maciel Furtado, a goalkeeper coming through the Santos academy. The 197cm tall and 92kg heavy goalkeeper is still a goalkeeper in the making. His FM17 profile shows that he has areas where he’s good at and other areas he’s terrible at. What stands out is his ability to make important saves, either by holding onto the ball at shots or use his excellent reflexes to react quickly at rebounds and quick powerful shots. His ability to communicate and command the players at set-pieces shows a commanding goalkeeper with great control. His ability to deal with crosses and aerial situations makes him trustworthy in defensive set-pieces.
Despite his inability to rush out he is fairly capable of dealing with one on one situations. With the ball at his hands he’s capable of launching counter-attacks by throwing the ball far out, instead of dropping the ball at his feet and play the ball out of defence, which is one of his major weaknesses. With poor first touch he’s vulnerable at back passes from the defenders, but has a great decision-making to deal with the arising situation.

Nicolás Benedetti – Deportivo Cali, Colombia
Preferred Foot: Right
Nationality: Colombia
Secondary Nation:
Wage: €575 per week
Contract Expires: 31.12.2018
Shadow Striker

Nicolás Benedetti is a home grown player of Deportivo Cali who can be described as an attacking midfielder, but with a well-rounded player profile capable of playing as a striker, winger or even central midfielder. He stands out for his great determination and natural fitness which makes him likely to work hard to reach his potential and staying match fit for sides with a congested fixture list. The Colombian born attacking midfielder possesses good levels of vision, passing, decisions, anticipation and agility making him look like a decent false nine or playmaker. The major weakness of him is his poor team work which makes him a rather fairly selfish.
Nicolas Benedetti is an ambitious player with much unrealized potential and could be a great bargain as he may be available for under €1Million, while asking for wages below €5K.
