As the first promising talent in the spotlight series we will head to the title favorite Holland of European Under-17 Championship final tournament were we spotted Steven Bergwijn – a new Dutch wonderkid!
Steven Bergwijn is an emerging football talent who have become one of the profiles of the Dutch Under-17 and is definitely a player to watch in the tournament, which goes on between 9th of May and 21th of May 2014 in Malta.
Here is our scout report of Steven Bergwijn, the new Dutch wonderkid progressing through the ranks of PSV Eindhoven. The teenager is currently not part of the official FM14 database, but could be one of the new Football Manager 2015 wonderkids to watch.
Potential Football Manager 2015 Wonderkid Steven Bergwijn – A Scout Report of The Dutch Promising Talent
In Football Manager or in real life, Holland is often a nation we turn to, to find the best new wonderkids and talents. The heritage of Total Football still lives on at ‘de Toekomst’. AFC Ajax is often described as one of the best clubs in the world developing their own players. Hundreds of youngsters are all striving to break through the famous Ajax Youth academy. One promising youngster, who decided to leave Amsterdam Arena for their biggest rival PSV, is Steven Bergwijn.
At the age of 13, Steven decided to improve his chances of becoming a world class player by joining PSV Eindhoven. PSV, who has been forced to focus on youth development, might have found their new future star in Steven Bergwijn. The move from Ajax to PSV might seem weird for some of you, but the Feyenoord academy has been voted the best youth academy in Holland for the past five seasons by the jury of the Rinus Michels Award. Since 2009/10 the amount of PSV talents emerging has excelled!
In the Dutch European Under-17 squad no less than five PSV jeugd features in the final tournament, two more than Ajax. Steven is definitely one of the most exciting hot prospects of the Dutch U17 squad.
Steven Bergwijn was born in Almere on 8th of October 1997 and is currently part of the PSV B1 Jeugd together with striking partner Dani van der Moot and Kenneth Paal. Steven was first called up to practice with the PSV Eindhoven A1 in December last year, training with 2 to 3 year older players, but is now training with the first team. The former Ajax youngster has showed many glimpses of his huge potential with some quite impressive performances the last 6 to 12 months. His development has alerted both scouts and coaches, which forced PSV to act fast to tie up this promising winger before the final tournament of Euro U17 has started. The Dutch wonderkid put pen on paper on a professional contract around two weeks before the tournament started, which keeps him at ‘De Herdgang’ until 2017.
Steven Bergwijn alongside the Indonesian Wonderkid Ezra Walian has stood out as some great emerging talents in the Euro Under-17 qualification rounds, scoring 9 goals of the overall amount of 24! Both can be described as some of the most lethal players from the qualification rounds – leading Netherlands to an impressing goalscoring ratio of 4 goals per match. While Ezra Walian has scored 5 goals in 40 minutes of play against San Marino, becoming Hollands current top scorer, Steven Bergwijn impressed fans and coaches by bagging 2 goals in the highly important final match of the elite round against France.
