The Benefits of Signings Unattached Players and Free Agents

With the financial situation of many clubs the transfer budget limit has declined over the years. Some clubs can’t afford offering huge wages and splash out the cash on the biggest stars anymore.
For some clubs it may be a struggle just to commit by the spending constraints of the Financial Fair Play. For some FM15 clubs, the only solution will be to sign free transfer players. As you will discover below there are many benefits of signing free agents;

  1. First of, as the players are free it will not impact the transfer budget – letting you have funds to spare (if any) for another target
  2. When that is said, these players will demand a salary (and perhaps some clauses) which will only impact the wage budget. Overall the free agents will be a lot less cheaper than signing a contracted player.
  3. One major benefit of signing free agents and scouting for unattached players and players out of contract throughout the season is that you can sign these free players no matter if the transfer window is open or closed, which lets you sign a replacement for your long term injured key player the entire season and strengthen your squad when it’s needed, no matter if it’s in the middle of October or April.
  4. Let’s you sign experienced players with perhaps international experience or experience from playing on an higher level than your club rather cheaply. These ‘veterans’ may have some years left before they retire and will be good choices for mentors – tutoring your best talents and emerging wonderkids.

Ultimate list of Football Manager 2015 Players on Free Transfer

Victor Valdes – Probably the biggest name on the free agents list this season. The former Barcelona goalkeeper has pretty high wage demands so if you’re not managing a top club I suggest you find yourself another target. The only problem with him is that he starts the game injured.

Other recommendations: Dani Aranzubia, Tomasz Kuszczak, Marco Amelia

Anthony Réveillère – The French right back spent 10 years of his career in Lyon, where he was one of the best players in his position in the league. Last season he played for Napoli and now you can get him for free at the start of the game. He is a bit old at 34 but still has some football left in him and can play both at left and right back.

Lucas – A great right back that is efficient both in defense and offense. The Brazilian is 26 years old and at his peak right now. His previous club was Botafogo and there will be some competition for him but you can sign him on 10k per week.

Other recommendations: Marc Bertrán, Christian Lell, Cristian Sapunaru, Andrea Dossena, Chidi Odiah, Reto Ziegler

Diego Lugano – Former PSG, Malaga and WBA player and Uruguay international, Lugano is one of the must-sign players in this list. He lacks the pace to play at the top level but for a smaller club he’s the best there is in terms of defenders on a free transfer.

John Mensah – Having played for Rennes, Lyon and Sunderland, Mensah has the needed experience at the top level. He is still going to be a valuable asset to your team, should you decide to sign him.His wage requirements aren’t high, making him affordable for most clubs.

Other recommendations: Jonathan Zebina, William Gallas, Joseph Yobo, Carlos Marchena

Alou Diarra – The Frenchman is well known for his spells at Marseille, Rennes and West Ham so when it comes to experience he’s going to be a wise choice. He still has good attributes for a 33-year old and his mental stats are excellent.

Fran Merida – Former Arsenal and Atletico Madrid player, he was last seen at the Brazilian club Atletico Paranaese. The Spanish creative playmaker has all the attributes to succeed but luck isn’t on his side and now he’s without a club. At 24, he would be an excellent long-term choice for your team.

Pablo Aimar – Another big name that doesn’t have a club at the start of the game. He possesses yreat technical and mental attributes; the only problem could be his physique. He’s quite old (34) and probably you wouldn’t be able to use him in every game during the season.

Other recommendations: Jamie O’Hara, Demy de Zeeuw, Mahamadou Diarra, Wout Brama

Piotr Trochowski – Despite having won the Europa League with Sevilla, he finds himself without a club a couple of months later. This is the story of Piotr Trochowski, who has 35 caps for Germany. His amazing passing, long-range shooting and technique are the main reasons why you should get him. Plus, he can play almost anywhere in attack and offer many different options for your side.

Chris Eagles – Manchester United youngster Chris Eagles is without a club and I’m sure many Championship sides would like to have him at their disposal. Eagles has experience in this league, having played for Burnley and Bolton. He can also be used anywhere in attacking midfield.

Other recommendations: Simao, Otman Bakkal, El-Hadji Diouf, Vicente, Jermaine Pennant, Sotiris Ninis

Andriy Voronin – The Ukrainian striker is mostly known for his spells at Leverkusen and Liverpool but after spending the last season in Russia at Dinamo Moscow, he’s on the free agents list and doesn’t look half bad. Voronin can also play behind the striker but is most efficient when playing up front.

Other recommendations: Nikola Zigic, Denis Stracqualursi, Túlio de Melo
